Team lead’s Week 2 Review: What’s Sweeter than A Can of Bitter Lemon?

Team lead’s Week 2 Review: What’s Sweeter than A Can of Bitter Lemon?

Bitter or sweet? It depends on your taste buds.

Before I table this review, I want to first say that working on Receive has felt like draining a can of bitter lemon. For context, I love bitter lemon, but the bigger lesson here is that not everything will be nice and juicy. We are learning to flow with it.

Week 2 has been way better than week one. As a team, we gave week one 30% overall score. For week 2, I am confident enough to say that we are 50% flow rate, and that is a lot of improvement.

Unlike week one where there wasn’t a lot of synergy, week two came with better alignment. The graphics design team finally got their communication going with the digital marketing and content team. The product managers and the product designers finally found a shoe that fits perfectly. The front-end and back-end design teams also found some alliances, and the line that flows from one track to another is no longer a dotted line.

That said, however, there is still a long way to go. Some tracks still have problems with understanding what they should do. That is expected because, for most of us, this is a new adventure. Not that it is an excuse, so we are working to get them the clarity they need. As the team lead, I will be setting up meetings with track mentors that need help with guidance. This is while we make sure to fulfil our tasks and get our deliverables.

Quite a lot of people have stepped up in a very huge way. I want to use his opportunity to mention their names. Olumuyiwa is my assistant, and it would have been difficult to manage this team without him. He also doubles as the project manager for the backend team, and he has been so helpful.

Not to forget Lolade Shittu, who is the team leader of the backend team. He has been very instrumental. Bisi Adedun, the energetic team led for the Product manager track, is a full vibe. Her energy is contagious and while we have had a small nut to crack a few times, she has shown outstanding capacity.

Temilade Adebiyi is the team lead for the Digital Marketing and Content Creation team. She has a fascinating leadership style and I have seen her use it to coordinate the largest track in our group. There is a lot of fun and vibe in the group as they go about their task.

Sarah King, the track lead for the product design track, has also been phenomenal. I have personally been impressed with how she has handled the numerous challenges has come her way. Al-Ameen Tiyamiyu has been great with the front-end track.

Damola Adedeji has an admirable drive. He is the graphic design team lead. His consistency and tenacity are also exemplary. He didn’t join at the same time as everyone, but that has not hindered his contribution. In fact, there will be no brand guide or logo and identity without his input.

Like I said earlier, this is an exhilarating project. It is the best learning curve anyone could have asked for. I’ll see you next week.
